I thought I would run a pre-made adventure this past week. After all, I was busy dying of a nasty sinus infection, and it seemed to make sense.
Never. Again.
Things are too restrictive, and while I’m tweaking it a bit, I don’t have as much flexibility as I usually do to deal with my player’s questions. After we finish this particular adventure, I’ll post a link to it. I think it’s a good starting point, but I doubt I’ll ever use something like this again. Even if I just wing it, I think the alternative is better than running somebody else’s story.
I tried running prefabs a few times. Never did turn out well. I think it takes a different kind of DM to run those things. You can take it as a base point and interlock it with your story. Maps, traps, puzzles are great to reuse, but sometimes the reason to be there is just… meh.
I don’t know. Maybe it’s my own inexperience at running prefabs, but it seems like things take longer, are more convoluted, and are just kind of lame. Lame, lame, lame. I’m ditching everything this prefab, even though we’re smack dab in the middle of it. Last session was kind of stilted, and I didn’t have much fun running it.
I guess a lesson is learned, but it sucks, because I was really hoping to save some time since I’m pretty busy with rehearsals at the moment after work. Oh well, guess I can put my insomnia to work, then. =\
